An enormous thank you to all of the folks who showed up to help clean up trash in April! Led by the intrepid Ann Roberti and Nancy McShane (who have been making roadside cleanup an annual tradition for many years in Andes), the crew met twice and cleaned up over 80 bags of trash…

Our thanks to all who helped! Some evidence, including some really spiffy new outfits Ann found…

Help at Hogans!

Are you looking for work?

Cheryl Terrace and Andy Wos are helping Don to get Hogans spiffed up and shaped up — they’re working on trying to purchase the property at some point, but in the mean time, are wanting to help get it thriving as a community resource. And they are looking for great helpers!

Here’s the message from Cheryl:

Hello Friends & Neighbors,

As some of you may have noticed Hogans is getting a (much needed) make-over. Andy & I are cleaning, creating a new dining area in the back with a new menu..(featuring pizza).

We are helping Hogan transition into what he does well ~ make pizza !… (& eventually transition into another endeavor that will make him happier).

That said, we are looking to hire a few cheerful folks who are interested in working in (& possibly running) a general store /gas station/ restaurant. Full & Part Time. Weekends & Evenings.

Needed: a CHEERFUL morning person for opening at 6 am (5:30 am to prep, possibly bake, & other general duties).
A variety of other positions / times are also available.
We will be running ads in local papers as well as NYC (hopefully get some of that uber cool brooklyn vibe/energy).

Our goal is to make the Andes General Store a huge success and REALLY appreciate your help & support!

A Last-Minute Invitation!

Andes Annual Trash Pickup
Wednesday, April 18 & Saturday, April 21
Meet at 9:30 at Hogans

It is that time of year again, when most of us are unhappy seeing all the trash along our country roads. Ann Roberti and Nancy McShane are looking for additional volunteers in their annual endeavor of litter removal. They have chosen two days to accommodate those who can only make a weekday and those who can only make a weekend.

Debris removal days will be Wednesday, April 18th and Saturday, April 21st. Rain dates will be April 25th and April 28th.
Meet at 9:3o AM at Hogan’s with work gloves. Plastic bags will be provided.

Thank you!!!

Our deep thanks to Andes Town Supervisor Marty Donnelly and the Andes Town Board members who voted to pass a moratorium on heavy industry on fracking for six months as the Board watches legal processes on banning around the state. We thank all of you for hearing the majority of area residents and understanding that we must find better ways to build our economy than allowing international mega-corporations chew us up and spit us out.

And our thanks to everyone who has signed our petition, written letters, talked to their neighbors, and shared their thoughts with the Town Board. Your support made it possible for the Board to make this brave move.

We will continue to watch the Town Board’s decisions about the more permanent ban, but we are officially frack-free at this moment, and are truly pleased. It is looking like fracking is not going to happen in the NYC Watershed, if it does happen in NYS, but we believe that every protection possible is really important so we don’t lose what makes Andes so special (and the economic layers that come with that).

So, tell your friends — Andes is a frack-free zone! Come on in, the water’s fine…
